Bahrain wins UNIATF award

Manama, Sept. 27 (BNA): Health Minister Faeqa Saeed Al Saleh congratulated members of National non-communicable Disease Control Committee on Bahrain's winning the UN Interagency Task Force on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases (UNIATF) award. The award will be received later today during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)’s high-level meeting in New York that reflects the governments efforts in achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) regarding non-communicable disease control. This came as the minister chaired the committee meeting in the presence of the Ministry of Health (MoH)’s Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Dr. Mariam Al Hajeri who is also head of the National Committee. The meeting was attended by committee members during which the minister highlighted the efforts and achievements in the preceding period by the committee members comprising representatives of official and civic organisations. The committee endorsed the previous meeting’s minutes and follow up of its recommendations concerning various health topics. The committee members also discussed several topics, including conducting a survey regarding the cost of non-communicable diseases in cooperation with the World Health Organisation (WHO), launching the Youth Strategy on the sidelines of the Youth Summit, cancer awareness campaign "We care", "Initiative" and Smile" activities, hygiene and safety in school cafeterias as well as marking the World Diabetes Day on November 14.
