Bahrain's hosting of the 146th IPU Assembly praised

By Fatima Al Najem Manama, Mar. 30 (BNA): Speaker Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal and Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh held a press conference on Bahrain’s hosting of the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) scheduled to be held in March 2023. The speaker stressed that the selection of of Bahrain to host such a prestigious parliamentary event is evidence of the confidence that the Kingdom enjoys, and the good standing it has established with the international community and the international community, as this achievement would not have been achieved without the high support from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the follow up from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Zainal confirmed that the readiness of the Kingdom was praised and appreciated by the officials of the IPU, who have visited the Kingdom over the past months, where they were briefed on the features of the comprehensive development and the growing democratic experience. She pointed out that hosting this global event is an indication of the relationship of cooperation and fruitful partnership between Bahrain’s legislative branch and the IPU. The speaker noted the effective presence of the Bahrain Parliamentary Division in the committees of the union, where the Kingdom today holds four memberships in these committees. Shura chairman affirmed that the Kingdom’s hosting of the 146th General Assembly is a proof that Bahrain is a democratic country with values and the principles of human rights, coexistence and tolerance, and recognized from the largest democratic and parliamentary organization in the world. He noted that this approval reinforces the reform project of His Majesty the King, and confirms that the Kingdom has fulfilled all the conditions and requirements to host the meetings of the union. Al Saleh stressed that the Bahraini parliamentary diplomacy has had an impact and presence in all international meetings, and is in line and balanced with the governmental efforts headed by His Highness the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister, and what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries are doing to enhance Bahraini diplomacy. He explained that Bahrain’s role in parliamentary meetings is large and influential, whether at the level of the Parliamentary Division’s participation or other meetings in which members of the Shura and Representatives Councils participate. Shura chairman said that the presence of more than 2000 parliamentarians and international observers in the Kingdom to attend the event will constitute an opportunity to show Bahrain and its values ​​of tolerance, coexistence and openness for dialogue, and will give all countries of the world the opportunity to get to know the Kingdom and its people closely. Al Saleh expressed his confidence in the ability of Bahrain to host the next IPU’s assembly, praising the good reputation and prestigious position that the Kingdom enjoys at the regional and international levels.
