Bahrain's human rights strides stressed

Manama, Mar. 6 (BNA): Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh stressed Bahrain's big strides in protecting human rights and promoting its culture in the community. He pointed out laws passed in this respect, describing the human rights achievements as one of the dividends of the reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He underlined keenness to further boost Bahrain's regional and international status by promoting the role of parliamentary diplomacy in uncovering the truth and highlighting the kingdom's accomplishments. Al Saleh was speaking as he patronised today a symposium on human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain since the launch of the royal reform project. The symposium, "Achievements and Challenges", was organised by the Shura Council's Human Rights Committee to highlight the human rights accomplishments in Bahrain under the reform project of HM the King. The Shura Council Chairman underscored the need to boost the culture of human rights and support functions aimed at highlighting the kingdom's pioneering achievements in this regard as well as spreading awareness of the international standards and national mechanisms. He also pointed out the role of the legislative authority in studying legislation and assessing its compatibility with international conventions and covenants. The Shura Council Chairman affirmed Bahrain's commitment to respecting human rights conventions, preserving the citizens' constitutional rights and promoting their gains through legislation aimed at fostering social justice. He shed light on steps taken by Bahrain to consolidate human rights, pointing out the international praised it received for its unflinching commitment and constructive cooperation with the relevant international organisations.
