Bahrain's keenness on regional peace stressed

Manama, Apr. 9 (BNA): The National Committee on the Prohibition of Development, Production, Stockpiling or Use of Chemical Weapon and the destruction of such weapons held today its second meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, chaired by the Ministry’s Undersecretary, Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa Al Khalifa, with the participation of representatives from the relevant ministries and authorities.  The Undersecretary said that the findings of the committee today was the result of the efforts of all representatives of the ministries and government bodies concerned as well as a series of consultations and meetings in order to emphasise the firm policy of the Kingdom of Bahrain to maintain security and peace in the region. She noted the approval of the Shura Council last month of a draft law to ratify the agreement between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons on the privileges and immunities of the organisation, accompanying Decree No. (56) for the year 2017.  Dr. Shaikha Rana noted the importance of using the relevant international and regional organisations to hold workshops and awareness sessions in the field of conventions and treaties related to the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, stressing the need for the participation of all ministries and government bodies in these sessions to create national cadres specialised in this field.  The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the need to study and analyse the current situation of the Kingdom of Bahrain by monitoring the needs of each ministry and government authority in terms of capacity building or the provision of scouting or laboratory equipment required to meet international obligations to be included in its work plan for 2018.  She also discussed during the meeting the findings of the legal team and the technical committee both affiliated to the main committee of the proposals or outcomes that are related to its work.
