Bangkok is well prepared for floods in rainy season: BMA

BANGKOK, May 10 (TNA) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has instructed all district offices and other relevant units to stay alert for severe weather and possible floods during the upcoming rainy season. Bangkok deputy governor Jakkapan Pewngam said BMA asked the Department of Drainage and Sewerage (DDS) to provide related agencies with latest updates on weather conditions on an hourly basis, so they can predict rainfalls and make preparations. The local authorities should keep informing people of pre and post-rain situations as well as advise them to avoid flooded areas while DDS officials must take quick responses against flooding in the capital city. Mr Jakapan, however, is worried that possible floods could be seen in some parts of Bangkok, particularly in areas where as much as 90 millimeters of rainfall is recorded. He noted that less than 60 millimeters of rainfall is unlikely to cause any floods. Still, he is confident that the city’s water drainage system is now much more efficient than that in 2016. (TNA)
