Bangkok's food fair set Sept 2-5

BANGKOK, August 19 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Culture invites the general public and international visitors to enjoy tasteful Thai and international dishes at a grand food fair in Bangkok, set to be held at Siam Paragon shopping complex early next month. Thai Culture Minister Veera Rojpojanarat told a press conference on August 18 that the Bangkok Delicious Food Fair 2016 will be held at Siam Paragon during September 2-5, in which over 500 restaurants from around the capital will participate to serve their delicacies to international visitors. Veera said that Thai and international food, including rare dishes, with specially-offered prices will be served at the four-day event. The minister acknowledged that Thai cuisine is considered a Thai wisdom legacy with global recognition of its classical tastes and having ranked among world top dishes. The minister cited Phuket Province as an example that its tasteful food made the southern Thai resort province to have been named among the global Food Cities Network by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) since 2015. Besides, the Virtual Tourists website, in which a total of about 1.2 million people of 220countries worldwide have become members, recently ranked Bangkok as the world's top destination for street food. The minister revealed that his ministry's Department of Cultural Promotion, in cooperation with Siam Paragon, will, thus, organise the grand food fair to further publicise the Thai wisdom legacy on food culture more widely. According to the minister, activities at the upcoming event will be held in three main zones, including exhibitions and shows, cooking demonstrations and restaurant booths, along with food shopping at special prices offered by over 500 restaurants participating in the four-day fair. For visitors who enjoy taking photos, the minister suggested, they can also join an activity to share their pictures on the event fanpage to receive free food tasting coupons. (TNA)
