Bangkok's zoo introduces rare "Kinkajou"
BANGKOK, October 19 (TNA) - Thailand's Dusit Zoo in the heart of Bangkok welcomes the ongoing school holidays by introducing its new member, the rare Kinkajou, from South America.
There are now only three Kinkajous in Thailand and the Dusit Zoo has received the rare wild animal from the Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo in the Thai Northeast.
Kinkajou is from the same species of raccoon. It usually grows up to 60 centimetres in length with an outstanding nature, its tail being the same length as its body and strong enough to hold its whole body to a tree. Its fur is soft, in a golden brown colour, its face is like that of a cat and it likes to hunt food during night time.
Kinkajou also has special odor glands in its mouth, throat and stomach, which can leave its scent to show its territory. It loves peace and quiet but it will become fiece when danger is close. It consumes fruits and vegetables, along with smaller animals, while its long tongue can help it consumes nectar as well.
Kinkajou, now an endangered wild species, as it has been hunted down by poachers for their skin and fur and has been trafficked to be sold on the "black world market" as a rare pet, is usually found in South America, from Mexico to Brazil. (TNA)
