Bangla Foreign Minister meets Chidambaram; discusses terrorism

New Delhi, May 8 (PTI) Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni today met India's Home Minister P Chidambaram and discussed with him issues related to terrorism, smuggling of goods along the international borders and border management. After the meeting with Chidambaram, the visiting Minister said she was hopeful that all outstanding bilateral issues would be resolved through mutual discussions. "Smuggling, terrorism, water and border management issues were discussed. I am hopeful about a positive outcome of the meeting," she told reporters here. Dipu Moni said she was pleased that work related to border management between India and Bangladesh has started and it will lead to a positive outcome. "The all-important aspect regarding the border management was discussed. I am happy that the border management work started," she said. The Bangladesh Foreign Minister said both the leaders have discussed the issue of adversely-held enclaves but refused to disclose anything as the subject. A legacy of the 1947 partition, India has 110 enclaves in Bangladesh and Bangladesh has 51 in Indian territory. The issue is envisaged to be resolved under the land boundary agreement for implementation signed during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Dhaka in September last year. Indian Parliament has to ratify the land boundary agreement involving ceding of land with the passage of a constitutional amendment requiring two-thirds majority. "It is before Parliament of another country. So, I cannot say anything. But we are hopeful that the issue will be resolved soon," she said. PTI
