BBS marks its 40th anniversary

Manama, Dec. 21 (BNA): Chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs Shaikh Abdullah bin Khalid Al Khalifa patronized today a celebration held by Bahrain Bar Society (BBS) marking its 40th anniversary. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Jawad bin Salim Al-Arayadh and Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa. The Deputy Premier thanked Shaikh Abdullah bin Khalid Al Khalifa for patronizing the event, lauding the role of BBS in promoting justice, equality, citizenship and adherence to the law as well as defending freedom against any tampering with rights or breach of duties. He underlined the key role of the lawyer in showing the truth and protecting rights. The Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister welcomed the Deputy Premier, President of the Constitutional Court Shaikh Khalifa bin Rashid Al Khalifa, President of the Court of Cassation and Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Chancellor Abdullah bin Hassan Al Buainin, Public Prosecutor Dr. Ali bin Fadhel Al Buainin and Chancellor Salim bin Mohammed Al Kuwari. The Justice Minister affirmed that celebrating the 40th anniversary of BBS as the first institutional organization for barristers is a documentation of a rich history in which the lawyer has always been a key partner in promoting the state of law and institutions. He praised the continuous efforts of BBS in developing the profession and protecting its noble mission. The Public Prosecutor underlined the pivotal role of the lawyers in the judicial system, pointing out that many of them have become a tributary to the Public Prosecution after their appointment in the previous period. He affirmed their support to justice and to developing the culture of human rights in the Bahraini society. BBS President Hassan Bediwi lauded the role of the first barristers who contributed to establishing the society within an institutional and legal framework that aims to serve the profession of a lawyer and promote justice. He commended fruitful cooperation with Shaikh Abdullah bin Khalid Al Khalifa when he was at helm of the Justice Ministry as well as the Justice Ministers who followed in his footsteps, including mainly Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa. He also pointed out the positive role of the Labour and Social Development Ministry for its continuous support to the lawyers training programmes.
