BCCI board holds 10th meeting

Manama, Apr. 13 (BNA): Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) held its tenth board meeting at Beit Al-Tejjar. Chaired by BCCI First Deputy Chairman Khalid Rashid Al-Zayani, the session stressed the pivotal role of the chamber in serving members and revitalizing the national economy. The session decided to review the work of all committees and joint business councils in order to achieve pre-set goals and meet the aspirations of the trading community and members. A committee has been set up to better discuss and coordinate external visits so as to ensure maximum benefit from overseas' business trips. The newly-established will include as members Al-Zayani, Treasurer Isa Al-Refai, and board members Shaikha Hind bint Salman Al-Khalifa and Adel Al'ali. The committee has been tasked to submit a report detailing proposed visits in the coming board meeting. Executive board member Ahmed bin Hindi will chair a new committee tasked to deliver ideas and initiatives and launch quality projects which contribute to enhancing stalled private sector companies in particular. The panel will start contacts with commercial banks to reschedule the loans granted to stalled companies as a first step which will be followed by other initiatives in the coming period. The BCCI board members discussed a number of issues referred by the Parliament and decided to engage as many members as possible to gauge their viewpoints. The board endorsed the hosting of the 2nd GCC-Turkish Business Forum, which will be organised by the chamber in Bahrain, in cooperation with the GCC Chambers Union. It approved the participation in the 105th International Labour Conference, scheduled to be held in Geneva between May 29 and June 11 as part of the tripartite delegation. Other participations have also been endorsed. The board has also endorsed a proposal to set up a committee in charge of the sector of cafes and restaurants to reflect its ever-growing economic importance.
