BIPD launches human rights standards course

Manama, Apr. 7 (BNA): The Bahrain Institute for Political Development (BIDP) has launched the Human Rights for Public Security Officers Programme for public security officers. Held for the fourth straight year in partnership with the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) and the Royal Academy of Police, the programme seeks to foster international standards for human rights among the police. The programme features three specialised workshops were delivered by Bahrain human rights experts, including former MP, lawyer and Chairman of the NIHR’s Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Committee, Legal and Human Rights Advisor Dr. Ahmed Farhan and Director of Training and Culture Ali Al-Bahar. Workshops will focus on the "General concepts in human rights human rights standards in policing", "human rights, democracy and the national mechanisms to strengthen and protect human rights" and "international standards for the protection of human rights and regulations of the use of force and the responsibility arising from it." It will help promote, disseminate and incorporate international standards in the Public Security Officers’ work through law enforcement in general, for the sake of highlighting political rights such as freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and association that are closely linked to democratic practices.
