BKK governor launches monthly cleaning campaign
BANGKOK, December 26 (TNA) - Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang has launched a monthly clean-up campaign in the capital, aimed to raise public awareness on keeping the city clean.
The governor presided over a ceremony to launch the monthly campaign at the Victory Monument, one of Bangkok’s busiest transportation hubs, on Monday, after which more than 50 workers who were equipped with cleaning gears and trucks containing water, began cleaning pavements and bus stops in the area.
The governor said the clean-up work is one of immediate missions of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to be implemented in business and residential areas, as well as along the city’s canals.
"Monday’s first clean-up operation covers Bangkok's nine districts out of the total 50 districts, before it will be carried out in the remaining districts as a New Year gift to the public, with its concrete results believed to be witnessed over the next three months", the government told reporters.
For upcoming New Year activities in Bangkok, the governor revealed that there will be, among others, a morning alms offering to Buddhist monks at Lann Khon Muang ground in front of the BMA head office.
However, the governor cautioned this year's fireworks and lantern launching are banned, with violators to face a maximum three years in prison or/and a maximum fine of 60,000 baht each. (TNA)
