Brunei, Thailand strengthen military ties

BANGKOK, June 3 (TNA) - Military ties and cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Thailand have been strengthened during an ongoing three-day official visit to the Thai Kingdom by Brunei's Army Chief Brigadier General Pengiran Dato Paduka Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, scheduled for June 1-3. Thai Army Chief General Teerachai Nakwanich welcomed his Bruneian counterpart at the Royal Thai Army Headquarters in Bangkok on June 2. Accompanied by his wife and entourage, the Bruneian Army Chief's official trip to Thailand this week as the guest of the Royal Thai Army is aimed to exchange experiences and strengthen military relations between the two fellow member countries of the ASEAN Community (AC), while also building up bilateral cooperation on security, intelligence and joint military drills. Both neighbouring countries have amicable views towards each other in various aspects and have had their joint commission on bilateral cooperation in good place as a major mechanism to nurture the two countries' sound and solid relations. Besides, the Bruneian government has backed Thailand's policy on solutions to violent unrest in the Thai Far South. During their Thursday's meeting, the Thai army chief stressed that this week's visit to Thailand by his Bruneian counterpart will deepen bilateral relations between the two fellow countries in AC.
