Call To Name Panda Bears On "Ah Jib Gor" Facebook Gets Good Response

KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 (Bernama) -- The request by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak for followers of his Mandarin Facebook to propose names for the pair of panda bears on loan to Malaysia by China received various reactions, especially from the local Chinese community. As of noon Thursday, the prime minister's entry on the matter attracted more than 400 comments. Various names in Mandarin were proposed on 'Ah Jib Gor' or Abang Najib's Facebook page, among them 'Wen Wen' and 'Xin Xin' (Wen Xin means harmony), 'He He' and 'Ping Ping" (He Ping means peace) and 'Yin' and 'Yang'. Najib said China's decision to allow Malaysia to have the panda bears symbolised the good relations between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing. To reflect this good relations, some of them suggested names like 'One Malaysia' and 'One China', 'CC' and 'MM' and 'Rasa' and 'Sayang'. There are also names like "Tuan-Tuan' and'Puan-Puan', 'Putera' and 'Puteri', 'Jib-Jib' and 'Mah-Mah' and 'Zuo Shou' and 'You Shou' (left hand and right hand). Najib hoped the arrival of the two panda bears would enhance awareness on the importance of protecting animals threatened with extinction. "China agrees to lend us two panda bears. This clearly proves they trust us," he added. An agreement on the transfer of the panda bears is expected to be signed Friday between the Malaysian government and the China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA). It is part of the cooperation between CWCA and the Malaysian government to commemorate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. -- BERNAMA
