Call for tolerance, peaceful co-existence backed

Manama, Jan.6 (BNA) – The National Institute for Human Rights (NIHR) today backed the call to respect “all religions, faiths and doctrines” in the Kingdom of Bahrain. ‘Such a respect has turned the Kingdom of Bahrain into a model to emulate in regional and international arenas”, it said today in a statement. The Council of Representatives issued a statement opposing any defamation of any religion, faith or religious doctrine through conventional media or social media websites. The statement stressed the necessity of continuing efforts to consolidate civil peace, bolster national unity and strengthen social cohesion between all people. The NIHR statement expressed firm support to the Parliament’s call to commit to the principles of religious tolerance and peaceful co-existence which have long marked Bahraini people for decades. “Religious tolerance, peaceful co-existence, acceptance of others and respect of plurality and difference are a source of strength for the nation”, the statement said. NIHR called on all social segments to cooperate and assert adherence to the respect of human rights and values of tolerance and co-existence which have always marked citizens and characterized Bahrain’s millennia-old civilization. It stressed the importance of mustering all efforts to bolster the march of development, renounce strife and extremism and consolidate respect of human rights and religious liberties, which are enshrined in the constitution and international conventions and stipulated in national legislation.
