Chief Minister's Gallery Latest Attraction In Melaka

MELAKA (Malaysia), July 9 (Bernama) -- Southern state of Melaka has added another tourism product to its list of attractions -- a private gallery of Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam. The Mohd Ali Rustam Gallery in Bukit Katil here has about 20,000 exhibits, including photographs of the chief minister during his school days. Also housed in the gallery are the various souvenirs Mohd Ali has received at functions he has attended as the chief minister. Mohd Ali said the gallery, which was his old house situated on ancestral land belonging to the family, opened its doors to the public on Sunday. The entrance fee is RM1 (US$0.31). "This gallery adds to the various tourism products in Melaka which has definitely become one of the main tourist destinations in the world," he told reporters after the launch of the gallery on Sunday night. Mohd Ali urged individuals, especially those in Melaka, who had historical or interesting artifacts to open up galleries for the public. Melaka is also home to the Tun Abdul Ghafar Baba Memorial, Melaka Chief Minister's Gallery and Cheng Ho Cultural Museum. -- BERNAMA
