Cockpit Voice Recorder Of Ill-Fated Sukhoi Superjet 100 Found

By Ahmad Fuad Yahya JAKARTA (Indonesia), May 17 (Bernama) -- Indonesia's National Committee for Transportation Safety (KNKT) hope the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) of the ill-fated Sukhoi Superjet 100 which crashed in Gunung Salak, Bogor, West Java last week, killing all 45 onboard, can reveal how the plane had crashed. The committee said they were hoping that the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) would also be found so that more detailed information can be derived on the incident. An officer with the KNKT, Masruri said authorities from Russia would send a new CVR to download the data from the CVR that was found from the wreckage of the Sukhoi Superjet 100. The CVR that was found in the tail segment of the ill-fated Sukhoi was already charred. Meanwhile, head of the national search and rescue agency (Basarnas) Marshal Madya Daryatmo believes the FDR would not be too far from where the CVR was found. "To find the FDR, the SAR has intensified its search to a wider radius," he said. KNKT Chief Tatang Kurniadi said as per the international guidelines and requirement, Indonesia would carry out a detailed investigation on the black box of the Sukhoi Superjet 100. According to AFP reports, Indonesian special forces and Russian experts had combed the densely forested mountain for days looking for its "black boxes" as questions mounted about whether technical failure or human error caused the crash. The cockpit voice recorder tapes pilots' conversations between themselves and with air traffic control while another black box, which records vital aircraft functions, remains missing. -- BERNAMA
