Conservationists suggest Khao Yai National Park be closed off for recovery

BANGKOK, June 25 (TNA) -- Environmental network in Thailand has planned to propose to the Natural Resources and Environment minister to consider temporary closing off the Khao Yai National Park for two months to revive the park's ecological system. Chairman of the Conservation of Khao Yai Dong Phaya Yen Forest World Heritage Site Association Krittichai Sukmungsa said that the Khao Yai environmental network is scheduled to meet with natural resources and environment minister this coming Monday, June 27, to oppose the construction of a railing on Diao Dai cliff at Khao Yai National Park, as conservationists fear the project might disrupt the ecological system of the park, as well as ruin its natural beauty. Mr Krittichai said the network has also planned to propose to the minister to temporary close off the national park for at least two months during the drought season next year, or during the months March-May 2017 to allow the park to revive its ecological system, after the park has been disturbed by human activities for the past three decades. Nonetheless, the network has stressed that the park should be closed during the drought season so that tourism in the province would be the least affected, as the number of tourists during the drought season is quite low.
