Construction work at Muharraq Market Revamp Project commences

Manama, July 10 (BNA): Acting Director-General of the Muharraq Governorate Yussef bin Ibrahim Al-Ghatam said that construction work at the Muharraq Centra Market had commenced after the evacuation of tenants of the market’s shops, adding that the project is expected to be completed by the end of next year. Al-Ghatam was speaking while inspecting the Muharraq Central Market to be informed about the progress of the project, in line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to remove all obstacles and provide facilities for vendors and merchants. He explained that the contracting company had pledged to complete the Muharaq Central Market Revamp Project by the end of next year. The company also pledged to ensure the shops of the old market would remain in the new-look one, and be committed to requirements set by the Muharraq Municipality to maintain the interests of vendors and merchants. He affirmed that based on the close follow-up of the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf, the Muharraq Municipality had provided all facilities to vendors and traders to evacuate the market, in cooperation with the company, which, he said, contributed to speeding up the project’s implementation process. Al-Ghatam pointed out that the developing company had provide a BD 440.000-temporary market for traders, noting that the BD 5 million new-look 9800-sqaure metre central market will be a modern one with all necessary services and facilities, including air-conditioning, exits and car parks. The project aims to achieve complementarity between the kingdom’s economic and service development, supported by the government, under the leadership of HRH Premier, and backed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.
