Council of Commissioners approves NIHR's strategy

Manama, Oct. 4 (BNA): The Council of Commissioners at the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) held its seventh regular meeting, under the chairmanship of NIHR’s Chairperson, Maria Khoury. The panel approved the NIHR’s work strategy and plan, 2019-2021. Aiming to make human rights principles as part of the kingdom’s lifestyle, the three-year strategy is based on four main themes, namely environmental impact on human rights, human rights and sustainable economic development, right to equal treatment and the promotion of awareness of human rights principles across civil society institutions and the business sector. The strategy also included Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), as the NIHR is going to set up a special committee, comprising a number of commissioners and the NIHR’s Secretary-General, to follow up on the progress of the implementation of the strategy using various performance indicators. During the same meeting, the council also approved the report of the NIHR’s Secretariat-General for the third quarter of this year. It was also briefed about the work of the Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission (PDRC), as the NIHR is a PDRC member.
