Couple Charged With Murder Of Cambodian Maid

BUKIT MERTAJAM (Malaysia), April 13 (Bernama) -- A couple has been charged with the murder of a Cambodian maid between Jan 1 and April 1. Soh Chew Tong, 43, and his wife Chin Chui Ling, 41, were jointly charged with the murder of Mey Sichan, 24, a Cambodian national, at a premises at 2190 Taman Asas Murni, Jalan Bukit Minyak. Both the accused were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which provides for a mandatory death sentence upon conviction. The couple were represented by counsel Michael K.L Chee but no plea was recorded when the charge was read. Magistrate Chiang Kian Hong fixed June 7 for remention of the case. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurdeenie Abdul Rashid appeared for the prosecution. The deceased had been working for the couple since September last year and the abuse started several months ago. The body of the victim was found on a bed in a store room on the second floor of the business premises belonging to both the accused. -- BERNAMA
