Crown Prince: ICT sector advancement is key pillar of Bahrain’s development

Manama, Feb. 29 (BNA): His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister today met the Secretary-General of the United Nation’s International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Houlin Zhao, at Gudaibiya Palace. His Royal Highness highlighted that advancing the ICT sector is a key pillar of Bahrain’s sustainable development plan, and that this principle has guided Bahrain’s pioneering role in developing telecommunications in the region over the past decade. His Royal Highness also highlighted that Bahrain continually prioritises innovative ICT policies that foster sustainable competition within the market and ensure the sector is governed under the principles of fairness, transparency, and independence in order to protect consumers’ interests. His Royal Highness then spoke of the important role the ITU plays in improving access to ICTs across the world, and stressed that Bahrain continues to advance technical standards that match the rapid changes the industry is undergoing. In this regard, His Royal Highness said that Bahrain’s fourth National ICT Sector Development Plan will create an environment conducive for accelerating the sector’s growth. His Excellency the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, also attended the meeting.
