Curing blindness can start with a T-shirt

Dubai (WAM): Over 40 million people worldwide suffer from blindness that is treatable. In fact, almost 80% of global blindness is curable. Unfortunately, the majority of these cases is in developing countries and remains untreated due to a lack of financial resources or awareness of treatment options. juuduu.com, the online platform dedicated to creating awareness to charitable causes in the Middle East, has joined hands with Noor Dubai to raise awareness and funds for their upcoming Mobile Eye Camps. "Imagine the difficulties of a life in a poor community in a developing country complicated further being surrounded in darkness." Tarik Marzokah, Head of Marketing juuduu.com, explains. "When one of these individuals is treated, they are not just given their sights back, they are given another chance at life. Through our partnership with Noor Dubai and the support of the local communities, we aim to provide treatments in Noor Dubai's mobile eye camp in order to brighten up the days of many more people." juuduu.com sells custom t-shirts and other merchandise to raise funds for the campaign. In addition, they push an online campaign to raise awareness about the problem of curable blindness and how fairly simple and within reach is the cure. "Each item sold on juuduu.com contributes Dh30 to the campaign which can provide treatment for one person in Noor Dubai's Mobile Eye Camp" adds Marzokah. Dr. Manal Taryam, CEO Noor Dubai Foundation, added "Noor Dubai is reaching out to millions in need around the world, our disease prevention campaigns and treatment camps are conducted the villages that lack simple primary health care. With the support and funds raised by collaborating with companies through their CSR we can maintain sustainable programs in countries which will not only provide treatment but will also change lives giving the entire community an opportunity to grow and prosper. Nuummite Ventures, a local private equity investment firm based in JLT Dubai, incubated juuduu.com. Raed Hafez, Managing Partner Nuummite Ventures, added: "We believe every company has a role to play when it comes to Corporate Social Responsibility and we are delighted to be investing in juuduu. Social entrepreneurship lies high on our agenda and this concept is the first of its kind in the region, which gives it a strong growth potential whilst giving back to the community". – Emirates News Agency, WAM
