Day of disabled held in Thailand

BANGKOK, Dec 3 (TNA) --Thailand holds an event marking the United Nations International Day of Person with Disabilities (IDPD) on December 3. The theme of the this year’s celebration was the heeding guidance for sustainable development and empowerment of people with disabilities put forward by late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Organized at Challenger Hall, Mueang Thong Thani on the outskirt of Bangkok, an array of activities, skill training and informative exhibitions are designed to promote higher quality of life for people with disabilities. Over 2,500 participants observe and take part in the event, which the United Nations set under the theme “Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want”, referring to the recent adoption of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The Ministry presented awards to 35 organizations, disabled people support groups and 29 private businesses whose works contribute to better livelihood of people with disabilities. This year 71 disabled persons are awarded for their outstanding achievements. (END)
