Deployment Of Malcoy 8 Symbolises Global Recognition For Malaysian Armed Forces

KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- The deployment of Malaysian Company 8 (Malcoy 8) on Monday to participate in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is a global recognition for the Malaysian Armed Forces' (ATM) credibility and professionalism. ATM chief General Zulkifeli Mohd Zin (second from right) said it also proved that ATM was capable of playing the same role as foreign armed forces in the UNIFIL mission. "We are honoured that the United Nations (UN) has continued entrusting us to participate in the mission in Lebanon," he told a press conference after the sending off ceremony for the Malcoy 8 at Subang naval base here Monday. The ceremony was graced by Malaysian King Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah (third from right) and his consort Tuanku Hajah Haminah. Malcoy 8 comprises 46 ATM officer and 314 staff of various ranks led by its commander, Lt Colonel Hamdan Ismail. The first deployment of the team involves 34 officer and 166 staff, as well as 10 members of Brunei Royal Armed Forces. Malcoy 8 will be placed at the Kaoukaba Camp in UNIFIL East Sector in Lebanon to replace Malcoy 7 after the latter completed its mission which began on July 24 last year. Meanwhile, Hamdan said he was happy to get the chance to lead the team to serve with the UNIFIL mission and hoped that they would continue to keep the ATM's flag flying high. "I will continue implementing what have been underlined for us and I will ensure that the excellence performance showed by Malcoy previous commanders will be further improved," he said.
