Deputy premier inaugurates $138 m interchange revamp project

Manama, Dec. 29 (BNA): Deputy Premier and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Urbanisation and Infrastructure Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa has affirmed that more infrastructure projects will be implemented in the kingdom in the coming period, including the ones included within the GCC Development Fund.
The deputy premier was speaking as he patronised a ceremony held by the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry to launch the construction of the deep concrete foundations of the project to revamp the Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah Highway (Alba and Nuwaidrat Interchange).
Ministries of Energy, Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Housing, Industry and Commerce and Tourism, as well as MPs, Capital Trustees Board, municipal councils, Deputy Director-General for Investment of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development Ghanim Al-Ghunaiman, senior officials and guests were present.
The $138 million revamp project reflects the government's commitment to providing high quality infrastructure projects that support economic growth and meet the present and future needs, he said.
He added that the project is funded by the GCC Development Fund, expressed sincere thanks to the funds of GCC countries, in general, and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, in particular, for financing the Alba and Nuwaidrat Interchange, a strategic project that carries a dear name –the late HH Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al-Sabah, may Allah rest his soul in eternal peace.
Then, Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf briefed the deputy premier on the project.
The project involves mainly transforming the Alba roundabout into a three-level interchange, and the Nuwaidrat roundabout into a two-level one, and will be completed in about 36 months.
