Discovery Channel To Air Documentary On Malaysia's King
KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 (Bernama) -- Discovery Channel will bring viewers
'Revealed: Malaysia's Majesty-Twice A King', an hour-long documentary
chronicling the installation of Malaysia's 14th King Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.
Tourism Malaysia acting director-general Azizan Noordin said the
organisation welcomed the opportunity by Discovery Networks Asia Pacific (DNAP)
to showcase this unique occasion to its worldwide audience.
"It's a great visual platform for the promotion of Malaysia as a tourist
destination rich in culture, heritage and tradition," he said in a statement
issued by DNAP on Tuesday.
DNAP said the documentary was currently in production and was scheduled to
premiere on Discovery Channel in Malaysia and across Asia Pacific later in the
year.
Tuanku Abdul Halim made history as the first person to assume the throne for
the second time, 42 years after he first became Malaysia's King.
The statement said the installation revealed the spirit of 'unity in
diversity' thriving at the heart of Malaysia's identity and provided a unique
window into really understanding what Malaysia was today.
"In the unique system of power sharing practised by Malaysia's royal rulers,
perhaps it is only fitting that the first complete cycle returns a ruler from
not only the earliest sultanate in the country but also one of the oldest in the
world," it said.
DNAP president and managing-director Tom Keaveny said the company was
pleased to work together once more with Tourism Malaysia to chronicle a historic
event in Malaysia's history.
The Tourism Malaysia campaign also includes an extension of the 'Passage To
Malaysia' series with brand new episodes scheduled to premiere on TLC channel in
conjunction with Malaysia's Merdeka celebration in August.
'Passage to Malaysia' is described as an insightful travel series that
reveals the country's unique culture, traditions, people and rich history
through the eyes and experieneces of the host.
