DSI raids market, confiscates pirated products

BANGOK, Feb 9 (TNA) -- The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) said pirated products were confiscated at the Roang Klua market in Ayutthaya with the street value as high as 30 million baht. DSI Director-General Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang, together with Director of the DSI's Bureau of Intellectual Property Crime Col Pinit Tungsakul gave a joint press conference earlier today, after the DSI had raided the Roang Klua market in Ayutthaya and found large quantity of pirated goods which violated the trademark of famous brands, such as Nike, Adidas, Onitsuka Tiger, Vans, and Fitflop, as well as copies of bags and belts from popular brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, among others, all of which have an accumulating value no less than 30 billion baht. Col Pinit said the authorities had used the warrant from the intellectual property rights court to inspect nine areas in the market, during which the inspection process went on really well, though authorities were only able to arrest migrant workers hired to sell the products, prompting the department and concerned agencies to carry out more investigations into the suspect behind the illicit business. Col Paisit, on the other hand, hailed the operation was successful due to careful planning, allowing the authorities to confiscate over 30 million baht worth of evidences, along with four Cambodian suspects, adding that DSI would further the probe to find out more connections to the case, as well as to investigate whether such businesses are connected to money laundering or not. In the past five months, DSI was able to complete 21 cases of intellectual property violations, which accounts for 78 million baht of street value. (TNA)
