Education minister attends GCC meeting

Riyadh, Apr. 19 (BNA): The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Higher Education Ministers today held their 18th meeting. Education Minister Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi led Bahrain's delegation to the session which was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The delegations decided to affiliate the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) and the he Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) with the GCC General-Secretariat. The ministers approved a plan to hold a workshop on joint investment in education so as to assess the needs of member countries in feasible projects, stressing the importance of co-opting businessmen and commercial chambers.
They commended the efforts of universities and higher education institutions to disseminate the culture of voluntary work at academic establishments and consolidate Gulf citizenship. The ministers assigned the GCC General-Secretariat to draw up a report assessing the efforts of the member countries to develop scientific research and building partnerships.
The minister endorsed the demand submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain approving a new term for the AGU President Dr. Khalid Al-Ohali. Bahrain University President Dr. Riyadh Hamza presented a paper outlining the approach of Manama to ensure higher education meets the needs of the labour market.
