Electricity Minister receives UNDP official

Manama, Apr. 29 (BNA): Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza received United Nations Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Amin Al-Sharqawi. During the meeting, Mr. Al-Sharqawi congratulated Dr. Mirza on the launch of Bahrain’s first wind atlas identifying areas where turbines that generate clean energy and produce electricity from wind power could be installed. He said the achievement is a concrete indicator on the ground for the implementation of the National Plan for Renewable Energy and the National Energy Efficiency Plan. Mr. Al-Sharqawi said the implementation of these two national plans is beginning to bear fruit by attracting ideas and proposals for new projects in renewable energy. He said this indicates Bahrain is on track to achieve the rates and percentages approved by the Council of Ministers to reach have five per cent of energy use as renewable energy by 2025. He said these proposals and projects give a strong boost to Bahrain’s economy towards development and prosperity. "Sustainable development goals are equally important for both developed and developing countries until 2030 since these provide an opportunity to respond to the aspirations the people for a more peaceful, prosperous and sustainable future."
