Films by three generations of Iranian directors released in DVD collections
TEHRAN,Nov. 10(MNA) -- Three collections of DVDs containing movies by three Iranian generations were unveiled during a ceremony held here in Tehran’s Esteqlal Hotel on Tuesday evening.
Released by the Iranian Visual Media Institute, the DVDs contain films in the three different languages of Persian, Arabic and English, Managing Director of the Institute Mohammadreza Abbasian said at the unveiling ceremony.
Images and short scenes of the movies from the three collections were screened for the participants and the group of cineastes who were attending the ceremony.
The first collection includes Masud Kiamaii’s “Verdict”, Dariush Mehrjuii’s “Leila” and “Hamun”, Ali Hatami’s “Mother” and Naser Taqvaii’s “Captain Khorshid”.
Rasul Mollaqolipur’s “M for Mother”, Rasul Sadr-Ameli’s “The Girl in Sneakers”, Azizollah Hamidnejad’s “Tears of Cold”, Majid Majidi’s “The Song of Sparrows” and Tahmineh Milani’s “Superstar” are among the films in the second collection.
When Milani was called on stage to talk about her “Superstar”, which is listed in the second collection, she said jokingly, “Is it fair that at this age, I am placed in the second generation of Iranian cinema and those who are as old as my father are listed in the third generation?”
Sadr-Ameli also expressed his happiness and said, “Any time we review their films or listen to their music after all these years we still like them; we have actually lived with all these for years.”
Hamidnejad recalled his old memoirs on making the movie “Tears of Cold” and said that one should run for years to make a movie like this adding, “It took six years for me to provide the means to make this film.”
He hoped that there would be better conditions for the cineastes to stay here in their country in order not to be forced to leave.
The ceremony continued introducing the third collection, which contained “The Day of Satan” by Behruz Afkhami, “The Postman Doesn’t Knock Three Times” by Mehdi Fat’hi, “Silence of Sea” by Vahid Musaian and “Canaan” by Mani Haqiqi.
Afkhami was happy to see his movie in the collection and said, “I am so excited to see ‘The Day of Satan’ appearing in this collection; the film was almost forgotten.”
Iranian actress Taraneh Alidusti called the collection a great gift for film lovers.
