Flooding in Loei recedes

LOEI, May 20 (TNA) -- Several northern and northeastern provinces in Thailand are now under severe flooding due to heavy rain in the past few days and the northeastern province of Loei is no exception. However, the general situation in Loei has receded considerably early Saturday, especially in the provincial seat, officials said. Floodwater measuring between 5-10 centimetres in front of the Loei Vocational Education College is expected to be drained around noon. Villagers have still not yet moved their effects from high ground on fear of heavy rain after the Meteorological Department announced that more rainfall is expected during this weekend, officials said. Dan Sai district chef Prayoon Aranrut had already inspected the flooding situation and found that floodwater had sharply receded in his district. However, he has warned the villagers who lived in the lower ground to be prepared for the water that would flow from the higher ground districts. (TNA)
