Floods still worrying in Thai South

PHATTHALUNG, Dec 4 (TNA) – The flooding situation in the southern part of Thailand remains worrisome following widespread heavy rainfall across the region. Heavy rain has triggered flooding in many districts of the Phatthalung province with streets under 30 centimeters of water. The rising flood water levels prompted local authorities to speed up their relief efforts, ranging from placing sandbags to draining water from the flood-prone areas. In Nakhon Si Thammarat, many areas were reportedly inundated by about 50 centimeters of water. Nine districts were affected, and two villagers were killed. On Dec. 3, the country’s Meteorological Department issued a warning of heavy rain across the lower South over the weekend. In addition to the flooding, strong wind gusts across the region also caused widespread damage. (TNA)
