Floods in Tak province
TAK, July 23 (TNA) -- The Moei River overflows and floods communities in three border districts of Tak province as farmers evacuated about 10,000 animals to escape from floodwater.
It rained heavily this morning along the Thai-Myanmar border in Tak. It caused the overflow in Mae Sot, Mae Ramat and Tha Song Yang districts. Flood levels were meters deep and local officials were handing bags of necessities to victims.
In Mae Sot, Ban Wang Kaeo-Ban Wang Pha Road that links Mae Sot and Mae Ramat districts was impassable as it was about three meters under water.
Villagers had to evacuate about 10,000 cows, chickens and goats there but many farm animals drowned due to the strong current of the Moei River.
Besides, a landside occurred on Highway 130 leading to the 2nd Thai-Myanmar friendship bridge in Mae Sot. A 200-meter-long section of the highway was blocked.
In Sakon Nakhon province, its governor Withaya Janchalong ordered chiefs of all 18 districts in the northeastern province to warn local residents of possible impacts of torrential rain.
He put local administration organizations on standby around the clock and ordered preparation for the evacuation of people living near the Nong Han lake.
The lake holds 206 million cubic meters of water which forms 77 per cent of its total capacity. Last year on the same day, the lake overflowed and caused flooding in the center of Sakon Nakhon. (TNA)
