Floodwater is receding in many areas

BANGKOK, Sept 11 (TNA) -- Flood levels are declining in many areas including provinces near Mekong, Prachin Buri, Nakhon Nayok and Phetchaburi rivers, according to Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda. Gen Anupong said that flood situations were improving especially in Nakhon Phanom, Bueng Kan and Nong Khai provinces near the Mekong River. However, flooding remained in nine provinces and provincial officials would have to be prepared for the impacts of another storm that would arrive in the country on Wednesday, the interior minister said. Gen Anupong also expressed his concern on garbage disposal. He said that the government took the issue seriously and garbage disposal plans would be submitted to the cabinet for approval. The government would raise awareness among general people, governmental organizations and the private sector by promoting the reduce-reuse-recycle concept to decrease the amount of garbage, Gen Anupong said.
