Folk Holiday Marked in DPRK

Pyongyang, February 20 (KCNA) -- The Korean people marked the January 15th of the lunar calendar, a folk holiday, with pleasure. Colorful performances were given at theatres in Pyongyang, giving joy and optimism to citizens. The revolutionary drama "Three Pretenders" was performed at the National Theatre and acrobatic and magic performances were given at the Pyongyang Circus Theater and the Magic Theatre of the National Acrobatic Troupe. Schoolchildren played folk games like kite-flying, shuttlecock and top spinning in various places of Pyongyang, including Kim Il Sung Square and plazas of the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium and the Arch of Triumph. Families plied each other with national dishes before playing folk games. Some citizens enjoyed the holiday while having national dishes like Pyongyang cold noodle, sweet rice and sinsollo at Okryu Restaurant, Chongryu Restaurant, Changgwang Street of a chain of restaurants, etc. Public catering establishments including restaurants in the Folk Street of Sariwon City, North Hwanghae Province, and Sinhung Restaurant in Hamhung City, South Hamgyong Province pleased customers with special foods. When darkness set in, there can be seen people welcoming the first full moon of the lunar calendar in different scenic spots of the country including Moranbong and bank of the Taedong River. -0-
