Manama, Aug. 29 (BNA): Foreign Affairs Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa has met the Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit.
The minister took pride in Abul Gheit’s visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain and renewed his congratulations to him on his assignment, affirming full confidence in the Secretary General’s capabilities to further reinforce and develop pan-Arab action in the interest of the nation, in his capacity as a seasoned diplomat of high status and broad diplomatic expertise, wishing him success in his mission.
The minister emphasized the key role of the Arab League in cementing inter-Arab bonds and protecting their integrity, particularly at this very critical moment as they are facing huge challenges that might put their national institutions and gains at risk.
This requires further support for the Arab league and activation of its role towards the overall Arab issues in order for it to consolidate the Arab states relations, preserve their societies’ cohesion, empower them to face the various challenges and to fulfill the aspirations of their peoples for peace, development and prosperity, said the minister.
Abul Gheit hailed the distinguished role being played by the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, in underpinning security and stability in the region, unifying ranks and coordinating Arab countries’ stances. He expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Kingdom of Bahrain for its continued support for him and for the Arab League and for its on-going efforts to reinforce joint Arab action as this would be the main tool to surmount the myriad of challenges at all levels, wishing the Kingdom of Bahrain all progress and prosperity.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged viewpoints and engaged in coordination and consultations on regional issues and best ways to reinforce the security and stability of the region.
