Foreigners Yet To Settle More Than US$8.2 Million In Traffic Summonses

KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 (Bernama) -- The government will look into suitable action to be taken against owners of foreign registered car vehicles who have yet to settle their traffic summonses, amounting to more than RM26 million (US$8.189 million), the Senate was told on Wednesday. Responding to a question by Senator Chin Su Phin, Deputy Home Minister Lee Chee Leong said a total of 263,265 traffic summonses for various offences, involving compound fines of RM26,326,500, were issued to foreigners during the past five years. He said the appointment of agents to collect the traffic fines was to make it easier for the public to settle their summonses without having to go to the police stations. "This does not burden the people because the service charge imposed by the agent is borne by the government," he added. -- BERNAMA
