Former Malaysian PM Reminded Muslims to be Grateful for The Peace

KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 (Bernama) - Statesman Dr Mahathir Mohamad reminded Muslims in Malaysia to be grateful for the peace and development enjoyed by the country. He said some Muslims are ungrateful with God's gift to Malaysia which was spared natural disasters, peaceful and has an efficient government administration. "They are an ungrateful lot. We don't have to go far to see that condition in other countries are worse than us," he told reporters after opening the National Muslims Convention at the Islamic Centre here Saturday. The former prime minister said some Muslims were incited to be ungrateful and taught to curse at other people. "Don't create trouble. If we see people hold protest to topple the government, we too want to do it. We can change the government via elections. Win or lose is another matter." Mahathir said the Quran also mentioned of God's promise to mete out severe punishment on those who were ungrateful. "Non-Muslims must be made to understand Islam as it can unite the population regardless of their religion. "Difficulty in doing this caused some non-Muslims to have negative view of Islam and become hostile to the religion," he added. --BERNAMA
