Free car checks for travellers during New Year period

BANGKOK, Dec 17 (TNA) – The Department of Skill Development launched a campaign to offer free car checks throughout the country in an attempt to cut road accidents during the New Year period. Inspector-General of Labour Ministry, Ananchai Uthaipattanachep, said in his capacity of the ministry spokesman that the ministry meeting agreed that the campaign to offer maintenance service for cars and motorcycles will be conducted between Dec 29, 2016 to Jan 4, 2017. Each province will later set up the locations of free car checks service and will launch public campaigns to inform the public members. Mechanics from the Skill Development Department will be dispatched to station at each service locations to check cars and motorcycles to make sure the vehicles, ready for use. Highway police, traffic police, local authorities and workers of rescue foundations will be trained on basic skills on repairing and maintenance of cars and motorcycles. Moreover, rest areas will be set up at major roads where the provincial skill development centers and the regional skill development institutions are located to offer beverages, cool towels, Thai massage service for tired drivers.
