GPIC holds training workshop

Manama, Mar. 3 (BNA): A Workshop on training and development, organised in collaboration with the British Institute of Leadership and Training, organised by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company Academy of Leadership and Learning has concluded at the GPIC Club. The session was attended by several Company employees to reinforce a culture of training among them and to benefit GPIC in the long run. Among the topics discussed were how to keep up with the competition and enhance the ability to adapt to changes. The importance of skills training and the means to explore new strategies of staff development as well as practice good communication were also discussed. The Workshop came in line with the Company’s strategy to strengthen its manpower by equipping them with the skills, providing them opportunities to change for the better, and develop their knowledge and their abilities to prepare them to meet the demands of their jobs. In a statement, GPIC President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery spoke about the important role of the Academy in organizing such Workshops and praised its ability to cope with and provide the latest training programmes that contribute towards raising the level of employees and developing their skills. Dr. Jawahery said the number of trained, qualified and internationally accredited employees at GPIC had now reached 42. He said the most important characteristic of the Company is to invest in human resources and was top priority. He said the Company’s investment in its human resources is responsible for its success in the industrial sector. Dr. Jawahery said GPIC is currently pursuing policy to prepare and qualify its staff to enable them to take up Management and leadership positions and revealed they had started this ambitious programme for youngsters to fill leadership positions. He said global challenges make it imperative for everyone to move in the areas of education, training and development to keep abreast of developments in the dynamic industry. He said in spite of the efficiency of the Company's staff that may not be enough to sustain the Company’s business in the future. The Workshop participants, on the other hand, said the session gave them an opportunity for training and development as well as to acquire the skills to use the training at work for the development of the Company and guide it towards success and excellence. GPIC, over the last few years, has taken great strides in the field of development and training in terms of quantity and content, which has contributed in supporting the overall development process in the country. The Academy plays a vital role in the training process and in the development of Company cadres. It is equipped with the latest hardware and equipment, including a scale model of all the factories. The trainers are all experienced engineers and operators. Some of the training is also done on simulators that teach the various scenarios that may occur during the actual operation. GPIC also lays great emphasis on the development of national human resources through the provision of specialized courses at home and abroad and by holding Workshops on all aspects of the petrochemical industry.
