Graduates Should Accept Agenda Of The Government Of The Day - M'sian DPM

PUTRAJAYA, July 2 (Bernama) - Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on Monday urged graduates to open their mind to accept the agenda of the government of the day. He said they should shoulder the responsibility of ensuring the country remained prosperous and to move in tandem with other developed countries. "As the catalyst and mover of the country's agenda, graduates should consider wisely for the sake of the people's interests and that of the country as a whole. "I believe today's graduates will choose the best for Malaysia and will work hard to maintain the existing peace and harmony," he added. Earlier, Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, chaired the National Students Consultative Council (MPPK) meeting at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, here. Also present were Higher Education Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob. The meeting was attended by 70 representatives from 40 public and private institutions of higher learning in the country. The MPPK, set up in October 1999, was to provide a platform for university students to give their view and suggestions to the government. Muhyiddin also advised graduates, who would be the future leaders in the country, to have noble values and equip themselves with knowledge and to love the country. He also hoped that the MPPK meeting would continue to be a platform for university students to give their views and suggestion for the country's development. Meanwhile, Khaled said the government recognised the role and contributions of the graduates as partners in the country's development. He said programmes, like 1Malaysia For Youth and University Ambassador, were introduced as a channel for university students to give their ideas and suggestions. "This proves that the government always listens to and cares for them," he added. -- BERNAMA
