HAI sends humanitarian assistance to quake victims in Kyrgyzstan

ABU DHABI, 20th December, 2015 (WAM) -- The Human Appeal International (HAI) has sent a five-truck convoy of relief assistance to the people of Osh Province, 1,200 km south of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan's capital, following a devastating earthquake that destroyed 300 houses of poor families and created a humanitarian crisis. The convoy was received by a representative of the Kyrgyz government, and a number of MPs for the south region who thanked the UAE, represented by the Ajman-based HAI, for the significant humanitarian efforts it has made to extend relief to the victims of the quake and bring stability to their lives. Nurbek Alimbekov, Deputy Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament, applauded the government and the people of the UAE for helping those in need, saying the UAE proves that ''a friend in need is a friend indeed.'' Abdullah Al Awad, deputy HAI secretary-general for financial and administrative affairs, said the convoy carried 50 tonnes of coal for heating, 250 blankets, one tonne of food items, 10 tonnes of flour and 400 litres of edible oil. ''We will continue our efforts to serve as many quake victims as we can,'' he added. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395289432867.html
