Hate inciter sentenced to one year in prison

Manama, Feb. 24 (BNA): Public Prosecutor Ahmed Al-Qorashi today announced that the Higher Criminal Court had sentenced an individual charged with inciting hatred to one year in prison. The individual was acquitted of a charge relating to promoting political change using forceful means. Public Prosecutor Al-Qorashi stated that the sentence delivered by the Higher Criminal Court relates to a criminal charge associated with article 165 of Bahrain’s Penal Code, and follows a comprehensive trial during which prosecution and defence lawyers presented wide-ranging evidence and witness testimonies. The Public Prosecutor confirmed that the case and its verdict are under further review by the Public Prosecution. The Public Prosecutor reaffirmed that the defendant and his legal team have the right to appeal the Higher Criminal Court’s verdict, and that the defendant will continue to be afforded full legal rights and access to legal counsel.
