Health minister congratulates WHO regional director

Geneva, May 19 (BNA): Omani Dr. Ahmed bin Salem Al-Munthari has been elected as World Health Organisation (WHO) regional director for East Mediterranean region. Nominees from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya and Somalia took part in the elections on the sidelines of the 71th WHO meeting in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Ahmed bin Salem Al-Munthari won 12 votes out of 21 to become the (WHO) regional director for East Mediterranean region for a five-year term. Health Minister Faeqa bint Said Al-Saleh congratulated Dr. Al-Munthari on his election, wishing him success in confronting the health problems resulting from current regional economic and political conditions.
