Health minister meets WHO delegation

Manama, June 20 (BNA): Minister of Health Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh has met the World Health Organisation (WHO)'s delegation. The delegation concluded a successful five-day visit to Bahrain to review with the Food Control Department in the ministry and make recommendations regarding food control systems in the kingdom. The delegation also met official of the Directorate of Agricultural and Marine Resources in the Ministry of Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning, and the Directorate of Specification and Consumer Protection in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. The minister praised the WHO's efforts in boosting global health, and its continuous cooperation with the Kingdom of Bahrain. The minister was briefed about the important outcomes of the delegation's visit and its recommendations after the process of assessment of Bahrain's food control systems, including cooperation to create database, continuous training and development of food control inspectors and to increase public awareness regarding the negative impact of on health and alternative foodstuffs and also reviewed the services provided by the ministry in these aspects. Upon the conclusion of the WHO delegation's visit to Bahrain, the minister said the ministry will continue to exert its maximum efforts to implement the recommendations thanks to its qualified staff and capabilities to become an example worthy to be followed in food safety. The minister affirmed the ministry's efforts to preserve food safety in compliance with the leadership's directives and the ministry's commitment to its strategy aimed to improve community health care. She expressed the ministry's hope to get more support from the World Health Organisatin (WHO) to improve the quality of foods.
