Heavy downpours continue in Thai south

SONGKHLA, Dec 21 (TNA) - Many provinces in the southern region are facing continuous heavy rainfalls, especially in Songkhla province, where local villagers are monitoring the water situation 24 hours daily. Residents in Sadao district in Songkhla province have been monitoring the water level in canals closely, after downpours have continued non-stop for the past 2 days, particularly at areas at risk of being flooded. The heavy downpours last night in Nakhon Si Thammarat province have caused a flash flood which knocked a pickup truck down into a ditch located beside a reservoir in Baan Puek village in Prom Khiri district, prompting local villagers to help rescue the driver of the vehicle. The Meteorological Department, meanwhile, forecast that the southern region could be hit by more downpours in the next 1-2 days, warning local residents to be on alert for possible flash floods.
