HH Sheikh Hamad Hospital in Gaza Organizes Cultural Meeting for Beneficiaries of Prosthetics Department

Gaza, November 24 (QNA) - HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in Gaza, which is funded by Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) organized Thursday a cultural day in the presence of several beneficiaries from the Prosthetics Department for people with amputations and motor impairments. In his statements, Head of the Prosthetics department Dr. Ahmed Al Absi said that the meeting comes with the objective of engaging the patients in various treatment phases through informing them about the steps of utilizing the service, mechanism of choosing the prosthetic limb or prosthetic device in fulfilment of the required satisfaction, discussing the phases of the core rehabilitation for people with amputation, methods of preparing the remaining part of the amputated limb, as well as the criteria of selecting the appropriate Prosthetics for each case to ensure the optimization of the beneficiaries' abilities to perform the daily activities and functions. Dr. Ahmed Al Absi stated that the selection process of the type and form of the limb is subject to special factors and criteria that observe the daily lifestyle of the beneficiaries, including work environment, personal interests, hobbies, age, weight and the details of the amputated area, stressing that good training and rehabilitation, along with pursuing the instructions issued by the limb specialist and physiotherapist, help master the use of the limb and ultimately qualify the patients for practicing their daily life activities in a more easy and confident manner. He also pointed to the role played by the personal stimuli in overcoming the difficulties, especially for the persons who suffer from high and difficult levels of amputation. The Prosthetics department at HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in Gaza has implanted 1323 prostheses, a prosthetic device, and a spinal orthotic device since 2019, which helped people with amputations and various disabilities attain the highest possible level of independence and integration into community.
