High Commissioner for Human Rights' statement slammed

Manama, Sep. 20 (BNA): Head of the parliamentary Public Utilities and Environment Committee MP Adel Abdulrahman Al Asoumi said Bahrain is still subject to a defamatory campaign targeting its civilisational achievements and democracy brought about by the reforms of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
He expressed categorical rejection of the statements of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva on the human rights situation in Bahrain, describing it as biased and reflecting intentional ignorance of the kingdom's accomplishments in this respect.
Al Asoumi also voiced support to the declaration of a number of national non-government organisations (NGOs) which highlighted the tremendous achievements of Bahrain in promoting fundamental rights and freedoms, ensuring people's safety and promoting stability. He demanded international human rights organisations to respect Bahrain's democracy and adhere to accuracy and objectivity by avoiding rumours aimed at tampering with national unity and security. He stressed that Bahrain will always remain the land of peaceful co-existence and respect of diverse ideas.
