Higher Education Ministry Finding Ways To Help More Indian Students Enter Public University

JOHOR BAHARU (Malaysia), May 21 (Bernama) -- The Higher Education Ministry (KPT) is seeking ways to raise the number of Indian students studying at public institutions of higher learning (IPTAs), as the number is going down. Its minister, Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the drop was due to the meritocracy system which only picked the best regardless of race. According to Khalid, the worry about the drop in number of Indian students to IPTAs had been voiced out by Prime Minister Najib Razak. Khaled said Najib wanted to see the number of Indian students entering IPTAs increase and had asked the ministry to find the best way to help them. "The ministry is organising various programmes to overcome the problem and meeting Indian students to boost their entry into IPTAs," he said during a Permas State Assembly Constituency Indian Community Get-Together, in Permas Jaya, here, on Sunday. He said a 'free-for-all' approach could not be possibly implemented so long as there were drop outs in terms of education or poverty in the multi-racial society in the country. -- BERNAMA
